STUDIO TORU
STUDIO TORU is home to the workshop for Jewellery by Philothea.
Previously situated in harbourside Eastbourne village in Te Whanganui-a -Tara (Wellington) STUDIO TORU was a workshop, studio and gallery that was located at 3 Oroua Street. The image shows me in my workshop at 3 Oroua Street back in 2021.
However, like many small businesses in Wellington, during the challenging economic climate of 2024, I had to make the difficult decision to move from the physical location of Oroua Street in Eastbourne to operating as a pop-up gallery.
Below is the story of how STUDIO Toru came about and some of the fabulous artists that we represented.
Having outgrown her home jewellery studio, Philothea relocated her workshop to 3 Oroua Street, Eastbourne, with the dream of creating a beautiful space to work in and promote her jewellery, alongside the work of other creative like-minded people. This dream is large and constantly evolving.
Alongside jewellery by Philothea Flynn, STUDIO TORU also presents jewellery by Fiona Christeller, Bridget Donnelly, Leah Firth, Mandy Flood, Lesley Fowler, Natalie Halley, Francis Kirkham, Jacqueline Morren, Celia Murphy, Lisa Sinclair, Sue Shore, Mary Wall and Zita Westpel-Rose.
We also have ceramics by One of a Kind Ceramics, Melanie Drewery, Nina Chechelashvili, Stacey Shave, The Kauri Tree Studio. Textiles by The Black Pixie and Masterweave Textiles and sculptures by Suzy Costello and Minu Freitag.
Our regular artists include (in no particular order) Sarah Albisser, Beth Strickland, Nicola Jackson, Lesley Fowler, Mam Aotearoa, Annie Hayward, Disa Evans, Kate McLeod, Wendy Hannah, Helen Keene, Alecia Koenigsberger, Kirsty White, Studio Reset 239
